This guide covers the first setup checks for Formuler Z12, Z11 and Z10 receivers. Menus and accessories vary by model and installed software, so identify your receiver before following app instructions. Allow time for updates and testing; setup has no fixed completion time.
What you need
- Your receiver, a compatible remote with batteries, the correct power adapter and an HDMI cable; check your package contents, especially for an open-box purchase.
- A TV with an available HDMI input.
- A working internet connection and either an Ethernet cable or your Wi-Fi details.
- The connection details and any device-registration instructions from your own content provider, if using MYTVOnline.
No channels or programming are included with the receiver.
Step 1: Connect the receiver and TV
Connect HDMI from the receiver to the TV and select that HDMI input. Use the power adapter specified for the receiver; a plug that fits does not establish electrical compatibility. Follow the on-screen setup prompts after powering on.
Step 2: Connect to your network
Use Ethernet when your receiver has a LAN port and a cable is practical. Otherwise select your Wi-Fi network and enter its password. Check the connection where the receiver will be installed. Use a band supported by both the receiver and router; the best choice depends on signal strength, distance and interference.
Step 3: Check the remote
Identify whether the package includes an infrared remote or a Bluetooth voice remote. Infrared controls need a suitable line of sight. For Bluetooth pairing, follow the instructions for your exact remote and the receiver's on-screen prompts. Do not assume all Z11 packages include Bluetooth: the standard Z11 Pro Max listing and BT1 Edition have different remotes.
For accessories, start with the remote catalogue and confirm compatibility before ordering a replacement.
Step 4: Check the software and clock
Set the correct date, time and time zone. Open the receiver's Software Update app, review available official updates and follow the instructions. Record your current software version if you need support. On an older Z12 Ultra, the official update may be needed before MYTVOnline 4 instructions apply; see Formuler's release announcement.
Step 5: Choose the correct MYTVOnline instructions
| Receiver family | App version to check | Source settings |
|---|---|---|
| Z12 Pro, Ultra SE and Ultra | MYTVOnline 4; older Ultra units may need updating | Menu → Settings → App Settings → Content Sources |
| Z11 | MYTVOnline 3 | Content Manager → Content Source |
| Z10 | MYTVOnline 2 | Connections |
These source-setting locations differ by version. Formuler documents them in its EPG and connection-settings guide. Find further tutorials in our Guides & Tutorials directory.
Use the connection type your provider specifies and enter each value in its matching field. A playlist URL, a portal address and login credentials are different pieces of information. If your provider requires device registration or an account transfer, complete that with the provider. Keep credentials private.
Step 6: Install compatible apps and test playback
Check each app's supported devices and use its official installation instructions. Store availability and account requirements vary. A receiver's Android version or 4K capability does not guarantee a particular streaming service or playback resolution.
Test a programme from your configured source and check picture, sound and guide times. If the guide is offset, check the system clock first, then consult the version-specific EPG instructions above. If login fails, confirm the connection details, account status and device registration with your provider.
Step 7: Match picture and sound to your equipment
Select output settings supported by the TV, receiver and HDMI connection. Enable an HDR or surround format only when your equipment and content support it. If changing a setting causes a blank screen or loss of audio, return to a working setting and check the device instructions.
Step 8: Test recording before relying on it
Confirm your provider's recording permissions, the storage supported by your receiver and available free space. Make a short recording and play it back before scheduling something important. Back up existing files before formatting any storage device.
Frequently asked questions
Why do my menus look different?
Check the MYTVOnline version and installed firmware. Version 2, 3 and 4 use different source-setting menus; use the table above to choose the matching instructions.
Can the Z12 Ultra run MYTVOnline 4?
Yes, Formuler's official release covers the Z12 series. Check for the available official update on an older unit.
My remote is not responding. What should I check?
Check the batteries, identify the remote model and follow its pairing or infrared instructions. A Bluetooth connection and TV power or volume programming are separate setup tasks.
Where can I get help?
Contact our Ottawa team or call 613-400-4588 with your receiver model, remote model, software version and exact error message. Hide passwords and account details in any screenshots. Your content provider handles account activation and channel availability.
